The Nijmegen station area is in a dynamic period. VDNDP is working from the DO of the residential tower on the west side of the city entrance, together with WRK, to work out the makeability and feasibility of the design.
On the center side of Central Station there will be additional facilities for bicycle parking, new walking routes to downtown and the improvement of public transportation. On the west side of the station, the platform tunnel will be extended to an additional platform, creating a full station entrance here as well. On this side, the west entrance, WRK designed the redevelopment of the UWV site. This development is part of the high-rise structure in Nijmegen and distinguishes itself with its own high-quality appearance. The program consists of housing and a hotel. The bottom layer consists of a dynamic plinth that will determine the appearance on the adjacent public space. This plinth will guide pedestrians toward the west entrance and vice versa.
With an integral landscape design, the plan connects to the existing cultural landscape and will enhance local biodiversity and natural values.
