Commissioned by Schiphol Real Estate, Studio PROTOTYPE in association with VDNDP is designing the unique multi-tenant office building The Grove. The Grove is part of Schiphol Central Business District (CBD) and adjacent to the office complex The Base. The Grove is located on a prime location along the A4 motorway.
The development of The Grove building is based on the premise of creating a healthy and sustainable work environment that puts people first.
The dynamic design is set up from a flowing line that brings people into the beating heart of the building in an inviting & natural way. This atrium is oriented toward the sun, allowing light to penetrate deep into the building. The atrium will be equipped with a grandstand and a seating and living area enclosed with rich greenery, designed by Moss Amsterdam. This gives the atrium the character of an intimate courtyard in an orchard with a succession of a large open space, constrictions and view spots. These spots, as the eyes of the building, can be used as the reception areas for the various tenants of The Grove.
The facade of the building is designed as a transparent curtain, in the form of a wedge-shaped glass shell. The combination of the wedge shape and the curves of the building creates a dynamic reflection and light effect, in addition to providing a unique view of the dynamics of Schiphol Airport.
The Grove is a sustainable development (BREEAM Excellent) and will be equipped with SMART building technology. The construction is made of cross laminated timber. The Grove will be a multi-tenant office building of approximately 10,400 m² GLA and will feature a flexible floor layout, allowing companies of different scales to be accommodated. The adjacent green public space was designed by Flux Landscape architecture.
