De Louise is a new apartment building located at the corner of Grasweg and Docklandsweg in Amsterdam. The new development by Overhoeks, De Louise, consists of 113 social housing units with storage rooms and bicycle parking, as well as 3 commercial spaces. De Louise is a striking building with its ten stories and square floor plan. Distinctive features include the two setbacks starting on the 6th floor and the cross-shaped columns with rounded inner corners. A communal rooftop terrace has been created on the large setback, offering views of the Overhoeks neighborhood. The interior is characterized by a spacious green atrium. The façade consists of sand-colored precast concrete elements interspersed with bronze-colored aluminum. The beautifully rounded corners of the precast balconies and columns give the building a robust yet soft appearance.
Another successful Overhoeks collaboration
This project follows on from the previous projects De Berend, De Jakoba, De Johanna and The August, also in Overhoeks.
The project, like all our Overhoeks projects, is characterized by a very intensive collaboration between contractor, architect, client and consultants to engineer the design. The good cooperation in this integral team has once again proven itself in this project. Project developer and client Julienne Schreinemachers of Ymere tells in an interview with the The Architect about this so-called "co-making" approach.
