VDNDP was allowed to technically elaborate the winning design by Space&Matter and Niek Roozen bv, for the transformation of Bataafse Kamp in Hengelo. This was commissioned by Nijhuis Bouw B.V. and HK2 (a collaboration between Kloos2 and Holtkamp Projectontwikkeling).
The Bataafse Kamp is a former high school built in 1954. The building has been transformed into a residential complex with unique owner-occupied apartments. The city as the front yard and the Batavian Park as the back yard, is the underlying idea for residents. Moreover, the shape of the building creates a kind of community. Team VDNDP made a 3D model of the existing building from a Pointcloud and the study of archival documents. We thought along in the architectural design phase and worked out the technical design phase in its entirety. In our opinion, such a transformation is a good example of making a sustainability change. The result is a unique residential building in a green inner-city location.
