In such a comprehensive project, there are several design challenges. One is to translate the wishes of the municipality as well as possible - and to do so within the budget, the planned time of the project and with the desired user amenities.
The project revolves around the (re)construction and preservation of various buildings on the existing sports park in Borne. VDNDP, together with contractor Haafkes en Zonen, is responsible for the design.
The existing sports hall, with swimming pool, will be expanded to include a large sports facility and a children's center. The sports section will include a competition sports hall, a beach volleyball hall and a sports café. Central theme in the sports area is: seeing movement makes you move. By means of the sports street that already begins outside, all spaces will be connected and made visible to the visitor or user as much as possible.
The integrated child center consists of an elementary school, daycare center, out-of-school care and Kidsvooruit Foundation.
What is special about the school is that the traditional corridors have disappeared. They are giving way to learning squares linked to classrooms in order to also limit learning not only in the classroom but also outside.
The overall design involved a great deal of coordination with all users and stakeholders. A lot of attention was paid to the integral accessibility, cohesion between spaces, visible connections, stimulating encounters and the cohesion between outside and inside. In this way, the building fits well in its place.
There may also be a multifunctional exercise park at sports park 't Wooldrik in the future.
