In Overhoeks, a neighborhood on the IJ in Amsterdam North, a new construction project is being built in partnership with Ymere and Dura Vermeer Midden West. This project follows the earlier projects De Berend and De Jakoba, also in Overhoeks. VDNDP provided the Building engineer (BIM) elaboration and made the technical description.
The August is a new apartment building on the corner of Grasweg and Docklandsweg. The new Overhoeks De August building consists of 175 social housing units with storage and bicycle storage. A striking appearance, designed by architecture firm Team V.
The August will be a striking building, with its seven residential floors and U-shaped floor plan, and is a beautiful contrast to the urban landscape. The clean lines here are softened by rounded corners, pastel colors and careful finishes.
The plinth is clad in luxury green glazed Royal Tichelaar brick, adding a touch of elegance. The rest of the brick facade is finished with a wafer-thin creamy white plaster, giving the building a Mediterranean look. The triangular balconies, which playfully change direction on each floor, give The August a striking character.
Most of the 175 apartments offer the luxury of a private balcony or roof terrace. Thanks to an efficient construction method with prefabricated elements, facades, balconies and shell can be built quickly, which created space in the budget for furnishing the common areas.
Sustainability is also an important theme in the Overhoeks De August project. The complex will be equipped with a heat and cold storage system (WKO) in the form of heat and cold stored in the ground. This WKO source will also provide other blocks in Overhoeks with energy.
This project follows the earlier projects The Berend and The Jakoba, also in Overhoeks.
The project, like all our Overhoeks projects, is characterized by a very intensive collaboration between contractor, architect, client and consultants to engineer the design. The good cooperation in this integral team has once again proven itself in this project. Project developer and client Julienne Schreinemachers of Ymere tells in an interview tothe De Architect about this so-called 'co-making' approach.
