Right in front of Leiden Central Station, the Octagon project has been realized as part of the metamorphosis of the station area. VDNDP, commissioned by and in collaboration with J P van Eesteren, provided the Building engineer elaboration and 3D BIM model.
Octagon Leiden is being realized on the site of the old ABN Amro office on the Stationsweg in Leiden. Octagon Leiden thus forms part of the total metamorphosis of the station area into an attractive area where living, working, shopping, traveling and staying come together in a pleasant way.
The goal of the new station area is also to better connect the historic city center and the modern Bio Science Park. This will make it an area "where yesterday meets tomorrow."
The new building roughly consists of three parts; a plinth, the east tower and the west tower. The plinth of the building contains a mix of functions: a hotel with about 115 rooms, a parking garage and a number of commercial spaces. The two towers will house a total of 79 owner-occupied apartments with views of the city.
