Commissioned by The National Park Foundation De Hoge Veluwe , The Park Pavilion was built. VDNDP provided the technical detailing, from the building application to the specification documents, including the specifications book.
New construction was chosen because the previous visitor center and park restaurant was too small for the park's 600,000 annual visitors. Sustainable solutions were chosen as much as possible in the Building engineer elaboration. For example, it has a flexible layout, reusable materials were used and the Park Pavilion is low maintenance.
In designing the building, the theme of sustainability was one of the starting points. This starts with optimal use of the available spaces. On the roof of the Park Pavilion is a large number of solar panels. Furthermore, the position of the building is such that in summer, at the hottest part of the day, little or no direct sunlight can penetrate the building, while in winter, on the other hand, the sun has plenty of room to shine in and thus heat the building. In heating and cooling the building, use is made of a so-called heat and cold storage system (WKO: heat and cold storage).
The Park Pavilion is part of National Park De Hoge Veluwe and includes a restaurant, information center, reception and education areas and the Park Shop.
