Hembrug block 10 - Hemtoren

The Hembrug Noord urban development project includes several residential buildings with rental units, but will also feature owner-occupied homes in the future. Ultimately, the neighborhood will have approximately 1,400 homes. The Hembrug Block 10 building, also known as the Hemtoren, is one of the first residential projects within the new Hembrug Noord development in Zaandam. With 95 social rental apartments spread across ten floors, it is surrounded by the existing forest. The robust brick architecture, shed roofs, and the clear rhythm of the facades give the apartment building an industrial look that fits in with the former factory site. Thanks to a smart and constructible structure, as many units as possible on each floor are oriented toward the sun and the green landscape. In addition, each unit has its own outdoor space with a view of or across the trees. An easily accessible, shared bicycle parking facility on the ground floor promotes a healthy living environment. The client and contractor, Ten Brinke, began construction of the apartments in the summer of 2024. The first residents will receive the keys to their social housing units from the Rochdale housing association in 2026. MIX architectuur developed the project from the preliminary design (SO) through the environmental permit phases. As VDNDP, we carried out the Building engineer during the UO phase for the contractor Ten Brinke, and we also prepared the construction drawings for the project.
